This wonderful figurine has been a long time coming. For those of you with a good memory, we ran an competition in the Spring Issue of The Borderer 2001, to inspire a figurine by poem. Six poems were eventually short-listed and two winning entries finally selected to be produced as figurines. The first went on to become Our Nell, and the second, Urban Fox, has finally been completed!
Here’s a reminder of the winning poem, sent in by Geraldine Laker, who will hopefully be delighted to be finally seeing the finished figurine which was inspired by her prose—we hope we've done it justice and that it was worth the wait.
Carefully hugging the shadows
He nimbly walks, avoiding
Each circular golden glow
Of streetlights, and detection.
Reynard calls, swiftly, stealthily
Seeking out the discarded,
Rattling bins, devouring remains;
The Urban Fox is out to supper.
